Haunted Shell Pile

Come hear spooky stories from the intertidal!

We're turning our giant pile of skeletons (aka our shell pile) into a family-friendly Halloween experience the last weekend of October & the first weekend of November. Come out for lunch and take your kids over to the shell pile to learn about intertidal biology and how the tides operate.

What's this?

Sea Star mobile stomachs, Drill Snail tongues, and Sea Cucumber guts - oh shucks! Come to learn about the truly creepy critters of the intertidal.

Walk through our Tide Tunnel, exploring how life in the the tideflats changes from day to night, low to high. Don't get caught without shelter at lowtide, and watch out for the grunt fish!

There will be activities, candy, and coloring pages. Target audience is 2 to 10 year olds & their families.

Date & Time:

The Haunted Shell Pile will be open:

  • Saturday October 26th & Sunday October 27th

  • Saturday November 2nd & Sunday November 3rd

  • 12 to 3 pm each day

This event is free, with a suggested donation at the door of $10 per family to support various school fundraisers, including the Middle School Academy at Olympia Regional Learning Academy (in October), and the Hood Canal Education Fund (in November).
