Habitat for Humanity of Mason County in partnership with the Port of Shelton announced this week that they will be having a one of a kind summer aviation event at Sanderson Field in Shelton on September 12, 2015.
Modeled after the very successful Port Autumn Festival held in 2008 which drew in just under 10,000 attendees. This event will have a static airshow where visitors can get up close to the planes, a car show, live music, radio control demonstrations, food vendors, community displays and merchandise vendors. The event also promises something extra special - FREE Young Eagles flights for kids 8-18 years of age. The free flights for kids last between 15-20 minutes and provide an opportunity for kids to see beautiful Mason County in a whole new way. Plus they will receive an official Young Eagles certificate.
“The 2008 event was a huge success. People were really excited to be able to walk the static airshow, speak with pilots, and walk the exhibits and vendor booths. It was wonderful to watch the excitement of Young Eagles as many of them had never had the opportunity to fly before,” said John Dobson, Executive Director at the Port of Shelton. “It is exciting to be able to offer a one of a kind event like this again and do so in partnership with Habitat, to help them raise funds for affordable housing.”
Entrance to the event will be just $5 per wristband or four wristbands for $15 and will be available for purchase from the Habitat Stores in Shelton and Belfair. Habitat is also seeking community partners to make wristbands available to the community as well as volunteers to help with the event.
“This partnership is providing us with an opportunity to tie the dream of flight and the dream of housing together in an event that offers something fun for everyone!” said Tammey Newton, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Mason County. “We truly are excited. This partnership with Port of Shelton will help us raise funds and take affordable housing here in Mason County to the next level for our Habitat affiliate.”
